It began on Sunday when reports surfaced about a conflict between Mohan Babu and his son, actor Manchu Manoj. After a disagreement, they called the police to report an assault, with Manoj later seen receiving a medical checkup. Mohan’s elder son, actor Vishnu Manchu, who returned from Los Angeles, addressed the situation at a press conference in Hyderabad on Wednesday.
Vishnu spoke about the family issues involving Manchu Manoj and Bhuma Mounika. On Tuesday evening, Manoj was denied access to his father's property in Jalpally after Mohan filed a police complaint alleging assault against him and his wife. This led to a physical altercation between Mohan and a journalist during Manoj's attempt to gain entry with press members in tow.
After announcing his father's hospitalisation on Wednesday, Vishnu stated, “The only mistake my father has made is loving us all too much. No family is perfect, so I still hope there’s light at the end of the tunnel. My father did not mean to hurt the reporter; he reacted to his space being invaded in the heat of the moment. I’m in touch with the reporter’s family about this unfortunate incident. However, I have no right to correct my father.”
Vishnu also confirmed that he had been summoned by the Rachakonda police alongside his father. “I wasn’t even in the country, but out of respect, I’ll meet with them,” he shared. When questioned about Mohan's comments regarding Manoj’s drinking habits being enabled by his wife, Vishnu chose not to respond. He emphasised, “I refuse to discuss my family issues; why should I?”
When asked about potential family discontent regarding Manoj's marriage to Mounika, he remarked, “He (Manoj) got married and has a child now, and I hope he lives a long, healthy life. The marriage isn’t the issue. My father has worked hard for everything he has; he simply wants my brother not to stay at his home.”
Vishnu clarified that any involvement in the dispute was only at his father's request.
Meanwhile, Manchu Manoj addressed the press after visiting the Rachakonda police station. He said, “The police have assured us of protection. It’s unfortunate that my father attacked the reporter; such actions are never good. It was my mistake to bring the press into our home, but I felt helpless.”
He also clarified that despite statements from his father and brother, his mother was not hospitalised and was at home with his wife and children. “I'm ready to discuss and resolve all issues unrelated to property. My concern has always been about how the (Mohan Babu) University is managed. The police are investigating the disappearance of the CCTV footage related to the incident,” Manoj added.
Finally, he offered an apology to the media by saying, “I want to apologise on behalf of my family. Please forgive me; I’m sorry for the situation. I don’t like that my wife’s name has been dragged into this; we’ve never asked for money or property. I returned home to support my pregnant wife while my brother was in Dubai and my parents lived alone. Was it wrong to marry the woman I love?”
